RESIDENT FIRST, POLITICIAN SECOND
About me:
I ran for and was elected to a 2 year term in 2019, then re-elected in 2021 for a 4 year term to city council in Ferndale, MI.
Re-elect me once more in 2025!
I believe we need to work on
-
managing growth and development,
-
analysis of budget and expenses
-
increasing accountability and communication at a city level.

My professional background is in business management, communications, finance, marketing and accounting. I fully intend to leverage that background and merge it with my deep commitment to preserving the unique character of Ferndale in order to best direct change at a city level.
I commit to:
-
Make sure residents’ voices are heard in every decision
-
Give the same attention to our neighborhoods as we give to Downtown & development
-
Proactive & enthusiastic communication - I have stayed consistent in posting on Facebook about meetings & have sent out an annual letter every year to recap & inform residents of what’s happened and what’s on the horizon, as well as my voting record which you can see here https://bit.ly/mikulski-votes
-
Pursue affordable housing WITHOUT chasing quantity over quality in a way that only serves developers (support union labor and responsible contractor language!)
-
Regain and revitalize the Kulick Community Center — by pursuing partnerships and grants to fund critical upgrades, we can bring this space back to life and reopen it as the community hub Ferndale deserves; I have been fighting to keep this space since 2019
-
Analysis of our budget so that we minimize how much we pay expensive 3rd party vendors
-
Active listening, availability by phone, email, and social media to voice your concerns
-
Practical, logical, fiscally accountable stances on any issue brought to council
-
A deep commitment to protecting & preserving our greenspaces for current and future generations to enjoy
-
Improved sanitation and a citywide effort to reduce rat issues safely & effectively, including distribution of rat-proof trash cans for all residents (last year the trash cans finally made it to our strategic plan, and I have been working with staff to find a cost effective way to get them!)
Sometimes I wonder if we shall ever grow up in our politics and say definite things which mean something, or whether we shall always go on using generalities to which everyone can subscribe, and which mean very little.
